A’s Sign Brian Gordon to MiLB Deal
The A’s signed right-handed pitcher Brian Gordon to a minor-league contract today. Gordon last pitched in the Majors in 2011 for the New York Yankees when he made two spot starts for the club going 10 1/3 innings of 5.23 ERA, 7.48 FIP baseball worth -0.2 WAR. Last year Gordon pitched in Korea and I have no idea where to find any stats that said how the now 34-year-old hurler pitched.
Gordon, a native of West Point, NY though a graduate of a high school in Round Rock, TX was originally drafted in the 7th round of the 1997 amateur draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He languished in the Dbacks system before becoming a free-agent and signing with the Angels and Astros before making the big leagues in 2008 with the Rangers. He played in the Phillies organization before again getting a brief opportunity to pitch in the bigs with the Yankees in 2011. He represents organizational depth for the A’s and I can’t imagine him playing a significant role with the club in 2013 but hey you never know how these transactions will end up.
