Moore Signed to MiLB Deal
29-year old Scott Moore, a former eighth overall pick in the 2002 amateur draft is the newest Oakland Athletic. Signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training, Moore, who spent 2012 in Houston, hit .259/.330/.448 in 228 plate appearances with the Astros. He hit nine home runs, walked 7.0% of the time, while K’ing in 24.6% of his trips to the plate. His wOBA in 2012 was .335 while his wRC+ was 110 and he was worth 0.5 WAR. He saw time at first base, second base, third base and both left and right fields this year giving him some versatility that could be useful to the A’s. Moore previously has played at the MLB level with the Cubs and Orioles.
Moore could be a nice pickup, who knows if he could ever find the stuff that made him a first round draft pick in 2002 at the MLB level but you never know. Moore was drafted in the famous “Moneyball draft” before any of the A’s picks and in the pick immediately following the Brewers’ selection of Prince Fielder.
