Accardo Files for Free Agency
Jeremy Accardo was placed on outright waivers, cleared them and refused the assignment to Sacramento instead electing to become a free-agent. The 30-year-old Accardo, appeared in just one game for the A’s down the stretch going two innings during which he allowed two runs and struck out one. Accardo clearly was originally signed for organizational depth so his departure will not change any plans. The A’s proved this year that vagabond pitchers like Accardo can be easily found as they rode the backs of the likes of Travis Blackley and Jim Miller to big rewards. Overall in time split between San Francisco, Toronto, Baltimore, Cleveland and Oakland Accardo has thrown 284 2/3 innings of 4.30 ERA, 4.05 FIP baseball with 6.5 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 while allowing 0.8 HR/9 for 2.5 WAR.
