A’s Sign Jeremy Accardo
The A’s signed right-handed reliever Jeremy Accardo today and he will be sent to Sacramento. Accardo, who was released by the Indians six days ago, pitched in 26 games for the Tribe this season amassing 7.1 K/9, 4.1 BB/9 and 0.8 HR/9 in 35 1/3 innings for a 4.58 ERA and 3.97 FIP. He was worth 0.1 WAR on the year, while getting hit a bit hard than one would expect with a .333 BABIP out of line with his .301 career mark. Accardo has lost a lot of life on his fastball, with it having been 94.6 mph in 2007 (the earliest for which figures are available) and then just falling every year to the 91.0 mph he featured this year with Cleveland. He also mixes in a slider and a curve.
Over the course of his career which has spanned 2005 to the present and included stints in San Francisco, primarily Toronto, Baltimore and Cleveland he has pitched in 282 2/3 innings over 261 games with 6.5 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and 0.8 HR/9 for a 4.06 FIP to go with his 4.27 ERA. He is not a great pitcher but represents good organizational depth and I think is certainly a better option than say a Jim Miller at this point.
