Recap: A’s @ Mariners Game 75

Another low scoring A’s-M’s meeting. Another Jason Vargas outing where the A’s make him look like a Cy Young contender. Another frustrating loss for Oakland, as they fall 3-2. The A’s struck out fourteen times, left six men stranded and fall to 36-39 on the year.

• The A’s had five hits in this one. The biggest blow being a solo shot from Yoenis Cespedes off of M’s starter Vargas. Cespedes’ blast to left was his eighth of the year as a part of a 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts day.
• The other A’s with hits were Brandon Hicks who got a single as a part of a 1-for-4 day with three strikeouts starting at first, Seth Smith who managed a double as a part of a 1-for-3 with a walk and strikeout day, Jonny Gomes and Derek Norris also had singles on their 1-for-3 with a K and 1-for-4 with a K games respectively.
• A’s pitching looked good in this one. Travis Blackley got the start, went seven innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits with a walk and two strikeouts. He again was efficient with his pitches at just 88 pitches with 52 for strikes. Bob Melvin decided to go to Jim Miller again in relief, and in two thirds of an inning he surrendered two hits and a walk which resulted in the Mariners scoring their winning run.
• In the third inning Josh Reddick had an incredible play. Kyle Seager had a sac fly to left field that scored Ichiro Suzuki. Franklin Gutierrez tried to go from second to third but Reddick threw it to Cliff Pennington who fired it onto Brandon Inge to complete a double play.
