A’s Release Jeff Fiorentino
Non-roster invitee Jeff Fiorentino was the victim of the roster crunch in Sacramento with the recent demotions of both Tyson Ross and Daric Barton (Luke Hughes was sent to Midland also as a part of the making room moves) as he was released by the A’s today. He spent the entire season with Sacramento getting limited playing time. In sixteen games he had 49 plate appearances, with a .186/.286/.256 slash line, 12.2% BB% and 14.3% K% to go with his .258 wOBA and 46 wRC+.
There was virtually no chance with the A’s already possessing a logjam in the outfield that Fiorentino would have seen any time with the big league club, especially given the little time he even could manage at Triple-A. When he signed Oakland looked like a good destination with so many outfield vacancies but the tide quickly turned against him. He has 173 plate appearances in the majors to his name, and this was his second stint with the A’s, the other being a two-game but just one plate appearance visit with the Athletics in 2008. Here is wishing him well.
