Luke Hughes Outrighted to Sacramento
May 3, 2012
Nothing surprising here that Luke Hughes cleared waivers and was sent packing up I-80 to Sacramento yesterday. He had the ability to refuse the assignment but accepted it, which given the nature of the A’s infield woes seems a smart move on his part. He now has to scramble to find playing time with the River Cats who have Josh Donaldson, Brandon Hicks, Stephen Parker, Adam Rosales and Wes Timmons all sharing time at the three non-first base infield positions.

Another A’s acquisition that had a golden opportunity to perform at the MLB level and didn’t step up. The list is long and undistinguished. My guess is Brandon Inge will join that list. Hope I’m wrong because the A’s really need someone they can count on everyday at third base.
I don’t know that thirteen at bats is a “golden opportunity”. Especially given he was sidelined with a 102 degree fever for a few of those days. I think third base will be a tough spot all year. Don’t want to trade any assets away to secure someone for a year.
Just give some playing time to Luke Hughes and I am sure that the A’s will benefit from this and he is not jus “another acquisition”. I think you are right about Brandon Inge but he will get the full bullet and be released….
Not sure what I think of Hughes, can’t make much judgement in such limited time, but he hasn’t done much with the stick in his pro career thus far. From all I have read he seems much better suited to be a sub along the lines of Sogard. I’m happy to keep him in Sacramento and hope he works his way back.
