The Inaugural TVPRCRP All-Star Teams
I hate the All Star Game. When I was a kid it was exciting, you got to see the National League play the American League for the only time all year and it represented the best of the best. Now, you get to see the top tier, and the best of the American League East. The voting process is terrible – democracy clearly has no place in selecting an All Star team, the managers selecting extras is perhaps even worse. It is a terrible system, that yields a game that features mostly stars but far from all stars. So, here is my All Star team. My methodology is simple, every team should be represented. This is an opportunity to celebrate the game, and every team should be represented – so the best player as judged by WAR from every team will be on this squad regardless of position. Then the remaining roster spots will be filled simply by utilizing WAR – the players will be named according to how many of each position player each respective manager had on each squad, i.e. if there are three catchers, we choose the best three catchers. The outfielders are outfielders as they are in All Star balloting, so if the best end up being all corner outfields, so be it. So without further adieu, the inaugural Todd Van Poppel Rookie Card Retirement Plan 2011 All Star Teams.
