It Has Finally Begun!

The 2011 season is finally here – well sort of – as today marked the first outing of the spring for the A’s as they took on the Chicago Cubs at Mesa’s Hohokam Stadium. First order of business is to always remember Spring Training doesn’t count, because otherwise we’d all be freaking out over the gaudy 108.00 ERA that Trevor Cahill put up in 1/3 of an inning of work and we would be concerned that Daric Barton who led the team with two strikeouts has lost all plate discipline. But alas it doesn’t count, and of course one game in everybody has either gaudy numbers or very round numbers as the team is paced by Jai Miller and Anthony Recker both hitting 1.000
The game was not televised but I listened to it via KTRB so I can’t really say how anyone looked and one can’t deduce too much from stats but it seemed like Josh Outman did alright in his two innings of work allowing three hits. Seems, he probably made a good first impression as he guns for that fifth starter spot. All in all a good day for the A’s, 15-7 victors.
Can’t wait to see a game live on television, shouldn’t be long, tomorrow’s game in Tempe against the Halos is on FoxSportsWest.
